Job Summary
Reporting to and under the general supervision of the Director of Disability Services for Students (DSS), the Disability Management Advisor performs a wide variety of generally complex Student Services Professional work by providing comprehensive academic accommodation services to eligible Sonoma State University students. Incumbent will determine and evaluate eligibility for DSS services after careful review of detailed and complex disability-related medical/psychological documentation; determine appropriate academic accommodations based on the functional limitations associated with one's disability; provide comprehensive academic advising; and participate in educational endeavors to ensure the university complies with Federal and State equal access laws. The incumbent assists in the design, implementation, planning and coordination of comprehensive and integrated disability support services. The incumbent performs complex work utilizing intermediate-level analytical and interpersonal skills where assignments include department, division and campus-wide responsibilities. The incumbent works closely with the Director in order to keep up-to-date on complex and ever-evolving equal access laws such as the ADAAA, Sections 504 & 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, CSU Executive Orders, and other system-wide mandates in order to assist the university in providing equal access to the educational process for students with disabilities.
Key Qualifications
Requires the equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university in a job-related field and the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional experience working with adults with disabilities, and interpreting and analyzing diverse and complex disability-related information in order to make appropriate access/accommodations recommendations. A master's degree in Social Sciences, Social Work, Student Development, Rehabilitation Counseling, or a directly related field preferred and may be substituted for one year of the required experience. Candidates with learning disability assessment experience highly desired. Experience keeping records and correspondence by computer and demonstrated effective communication skills, both orally and written, are required. Prior experience working with students who have learning disabilities and interpreting assessments within a university environment is preferred. Intermediate computer proficiency using Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, and Titanium is preferred.

Requires general knowledge, or the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge, of the organizational procedures, departments, and activities at SSU. Incumbent must possess strong attention to detail and organizational and prioritization skills; the ability to advise and lead students on complex student-related matters; solve problems and develop solutions; analyze and evaluate complex situations and determine the right course of action and an ability to follow through independently.

The incumbent of this position must possess a general knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of advising methods, academic advising, and of program management related to disability services. Disability Management Advisors must demonstrate the ability to work successfully with students with unique and multiple needs, display initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments, and implementing programs. The incumbent must independently obtain, compile, analyze, interpret and evaluate information, and make verbal and written recommendations. The incumbent should have the ability to work independently, as well as working collaboratively as a team member.
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary pl acement depends on qualifications and experience and will not exceed $4,879 a month. This is a full time, exempt position, which will lead toward permanent status following the successful completion of a probationary period.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
