A Management Analyst I (MAI) job is available with The City of Fort Worth Police Department Budget Section. The MAI will report to Budget Manager and play a key role in developing, managing, and forecasting the FWPD budget. Work duties range in complexity from cleaning up the budget with journal entries and budget transfers to deep analysis which will drive decision-making on a roughly $400 million budget which is one of the largest in the city.

This is a full-time salaried position offering all City of Fort Worth benefits. There is an opportunity to telecommute up to 60% of the week after successfully completing the initial six-month probationary period. The MAI will frequently interface with top management and community leaders; have a significant impact on a diverse budget which is intensive in its use of capital and personnel; gain deep insight into municipal operations, decision-making, budgeting, and financial analysis; and have a meaningful impact on life in the City of Fort Worth.

The Management Analyst I job responsibilities include:

• Provides a variety of analytical and research support in assigned department or division; analyzes and makes recommendations for the solution of budgetary, fiscal, or operational concerns and issues.
• Develops, monitors, and analyzes department/division budget; approves budget expenditures and variances; communicates budget and funding issues or requests; reviews Purchasing Authorization Forms for increases outside the scope of current fiscal year budget; creates and submits journal entries for monthly adjustments; and creates analytical reports for quarterly re-instatements and year end.
• Updates previous budget requests and supporting detail; analyzes changes to authorized positions and the impact to expenditures; reviews contracts and grants; and inputs data.
• Helps resolve operational and administrative problems; identifies problem area; conducts research to find alternative solutions; prepares reports to present and interpret data; makes recommendations; and completes forms, paperwork or other administrative procedures to assist in implementation of programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Public Administration, Finance, Business Administration, or related and no previous experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Four-year degree with focus in business administration or public administration or five years of analytical experience with increasing responsibility or complexity.
• Experience and moderate skill level in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Microsoft Excel (comfort with pivot tables, vlookups, sumifs, and confidence in building new models for analysis).
• Previous experience in municipal budgeting.

Other Requirements

Final candidates selected for hire in the Police Department will be subject to a fingerprint/criminal history background check and polygraph examination. Applicants must not have used marijuana during the previous two (2) years, nor illegally used any controlled substances within the last ten (10) years.

Working Conditions

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.

Conditions of Employment

Candidates who do not meet the Education requirement, may be considered if they have more relevant work experience than the position requires. Those selected for employment will be required to pass Pre-Employment checks depending on the position requirements.
