Overview

This position is open until filled with an initial application review to take place after April 11, 2024.

The salary range for this position is $27-$35 an hour and 20-32 hours per month dependent on frequency of mentor visits.

The PAC Lead Teaching Artist, Sacramento, is responsible for overseeing the smooth implementation of PAC programming across two facilities in the region, including mentoring teaching assistants and peer facilitators, cultivating creative community within the local team and participants, and acting as the key liaison between PAC and the Community Resource Manager for each correctional institution in the region they oversee. Lead Teaching Artists report directly to the Executive Director and work closely with teaching and administrative staff.



Responsibilities

  • Regular mentor visits
  • Mentor and support teaching assistants and peer facilitators
  • Communicate with and act as liaison between teaching staff and CRMs and correctional staff in their region
  • Collect and scan rosters
  • Facilitate pre- and post-surveys in alignment with research team guidelines
  • Participate in monthly lead meeting with PAC team
  • Communicate with the leadership team to support operations (i.e,. Ensuring teaching staff is cleared to enter correctional institutions)
  • Organize events and exhibitions in the area with PAC support
  • Initiate 1-2 projects per year per site (1-2/year) including exhibitions and guest artists
  • Collaborate with the teaching team, including peer facilitators, to ensure that classes have the appropriate supplies, delivered in a timely manner, and organized on site.
  • Support the teaching team in the region, including volunteers and guest artists
  • Recruit and hire volunteers, guest artists, and teaching assistants with input from the leadership team.
  • Conduct visits to area facilities where not attending as mentor



Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Studio Art, Art Education, or Art History. MFA preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and ability to collaborate with a team
  • Desired qualities: creative problem solver, empathetic, detail oriented, responsive, dedicate to PAC mission
  • Practicing and/or experienced artists preferred
  • At least four years experience teaching total. Ideal candidate will have experience teaching in corrections.
  • Experience with PAC or another AIC organization is preferred but not required.
  • Candidates with lived experience with the justice system will be carefully considered.
