What You Will Do

Southern Cross is hiring for a full-time position that focuses on surveying natural gas pipelines at a wide variety of locations across the country utilizing our Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle. In this role we are seeking experienced drivers with excellent navigational skills who are willing to work primarily third shift, have proven ability to ultimately deliver results without direct supervision, and are flexible to perform alternative duties during first shift as needed.

Driver Duties:

Driving assignments will have varied durations, from a single week to 6 months and driving work is primarily completed during third shift. While traveling on assignment drivers receive a per diem to cover cost of meals, travel expenses and hotel. The driver will fly or drive to assignments depending on distance from their home location. Candidates should be comfortable using technology such as tablets and laptops and must be willing to learn how to perform routine troubleshooting procedures to keep equipment in working order. In this position you can expect a typical shift to last 8 hours per day working evening shift (e.g. 8pm to 4am).

Additional Duties:

Drivers are cross trained to perform a variety of additional duties during times when there are no driving assignments available. These additional duties include performing traditional gas leak survey and emissions quantification survey – which is an exciting new field that is highly valued by our clients. Other duties will include performing routine vehicle maintenance and system maintenance tasks as needed. These additional duties may be needed during or in between driving assignments and are primarily completed during day shift (e.g. 8am to 4pm).

Training:

Training the primary driver duties is typically 2-3 weeks (paid), learning how to perform driving duties to survey pipeline. Training for the additional duties will occur sometime in your first year of employment, depending on the season and volume of driving assignments. The traditional leak survey training typically takes 4-5 weeks (paid) and includes learning how to accurately detect and classify natural gas leaks. This training involves walking several miles per day and working outdoors in all weather conditions and environments (i.e., in and around vehicular traffic, residential and commercial environments, rural environments including tall grass, uneven walking areas, fields, city sidewalks, alley ways and at times encountering dogs and wildlife).
