Job Summary

This position works in DEED's Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) division, which empowers Minnesotans with disabilities to achieve their goals for competitive, integrated employment and career development. This position exists to support the Disability Innovation Fund (DIF) grant award entitled Go MN! by providing high-quality, consistent benefits planning services for people with disabilities who are Go MN! participants or are interested in the program, and their families.

Specifically, the Benefits Navigator:
  • Offers specialized benefits planning expertise, information, and resources to assist people with disabilities who may be interested in the Go MN! program to understand the effect of work on their benefits.
  • Provides leadership, consultation, and technical assistance to VRS staff in pilot areas regarding benefits planning assistance.
  • Initiates, plans, and collaborates with community organizations and other external stakeholders on strategies to provide benefits planning assistance.
  • Documents and monitors Go MN! benefits planning strategies, activities, and outcomes for system and process improvements.


Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

To receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe how you meet each minimum and/or preferred qualification listed, including dates of employment.

Two (2) years* of experience in benefits planning OR experience working with jobseekers whose benefits are impacted by employment (e.g., employment specialist).

*Bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute one (1) year of experience; Master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience

Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:

Ability to interpret complex data critically and use skills in investigating, researching, and questioning to determine the needs of the client and make recommendations.

Experience in customer service using clear and professional communication.

Experience collaborating, building, and maintaining positive working relationships with clients.

Skill in writing reports clearly and concisely.

Incumbent must maintain valid driver's license, & insurance, OR have other reliable transportation .

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work, or other closely related field as determined by the agency.

Possess the Level 3 Benefits Coaching certification.

Possess the Community Partner Work Incentives Coordinator certification (CPWIC) OR the Work Incentives Practitioner Credential (WIP-C).

Experience working with individuals with disabilities.

Experience giving presentations or trainings.
