POSITION SUMMARY
Aleut Information Technology is currently searching for a hands-on junior Mechanical Engineer with a desire to learn a variety of fabrication, test, and evaluation tools and use them to support USAFA cadet and research lab operations through 10 Sep 2024.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Applied Mechanical Lab (AML) Support
Provide support for AML cadet curricular laboratory exercises, cadet research, cadet design experiences, and non-cadet research.
Assist the AML staff, the DFME faculty, and other contractors in the set-up, operation, and maintenance of equipment that may include safe setup and operational support of the following:
Mechanical and thermo-fluidic testing and demonstration equipment
Mechanical and hydraulic test equipment to include load programming and data acquisition required to obtain material fatigue life, stress-strain, limit load, or ultimate load data
Metallography and fractography equipment to examine fracture surfaces stereoscopically
Mount and polish specimens and examine the prepared specimens in a scanning electron microscope
- 3-D printer programming and operation
- Composite layup fabrication support
- Course Instruction Support
Assist in the department's core mission of undergraduate cadet education
Support may include virtual online instruction, in-person instruction, and team teaching
The contractor shall provide extra instruction to cadets in instructional topics on an as-needed basis under USAFA and DFME policies
- Topic Expertise
- Provide engineering expertise to guide cadets through course-based and independent research & design projects
- Support may include participation in cadet curricular design reviews and reviews of cadet research project status and products
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Education – Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- Experience
- 3 years of experience as a degreed engineer is desired
- Experienced in using a variety of mechanical test equipment
- Track record of executing direction as well as the ability to function independently
SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills in English
- Exceptional leadership, interpersonal relations, conflict resolution, and teambuilding skills
- Skilled with Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Experience working in a military environment with knowledge of rank, protocol, and culture is desired
