Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

Theideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community andhave a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. The candidate will be tasked to support andliaise with other departments to serve the College’s growing population ofonline students. The duties includereference and reader services, bibliographic instruction, and other basiclibrary functions.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Develop tutorials and outreach materials to support online education;
  • Provide reference assistance via phone, email, and IM reference;
  • Configure, deploy, and integrate online Library services using available technologies; recommend adoption of innovative technologies as appropriate;
  • Assist the Reference and Instruction Librarian with holding instruction sessions in class, online, and in the library for students in a community college;
  • Liaise with campus IT (Information Technology) personnel and offices of Distance Education, Instructional Technology, Accessibility Resources Center, and Teaching and Learning Center in designing and supporting Library service delivery to students and faculty both on-campus and remote;
  • Implement interlibrary loan program, utilizing DOCLINE network, Boston Public Library and Massachusetts Library System while serving in ILL-related liaison roles both within and outside of the College;
  • Develop and maintain access-service metrics of success and analyze trends to continually evaluate and improve services in a data-informed manner;
  • Create and implement innovative programming that inspires intellectual curiosity and enhances the library’s role in student learning;
  • Support the library’s role in adoption and development of Open Educational Resources;
  • Contribute to the development of MassBay library services by serving on related campus committees and attending appropriate meetings of off-campus networks and consortia;
  • Cooperate with all library staff to ensure that library services are available during all advertised library hours;
  • Fulfill a regular schedule of desk and library instruction duties, serving as backup when needed for other librarians;
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with full- and part-time faculty members to enable and facilitate their access to materials and services which support their instructional needs;
  • Participate in library collection development with director and other librarians;
  • Actively support the teaching and learning process; strive to create and support a student-centered environment while fostering academic innovation and excellence;
  • Work actively with other areas of the college to ensure a spirit of college-wide collaboration, collegiality, civility, and teamwork.Respect the function of dissent in an academic institution while advancing a collegial atmosphere of campus collaboration;
  • Provide flexible, responsive, and high-quality service to all, be they students, community, faculty, or staff, and continuously assess processes and procedures and make revisions accordingly;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s degree in Library Science or closely related field;with three (3) years experience and/or training that includes libraryoperations, reference service, bibliographic instruction, circulation service,copy cataloging, and library information systems; or an equivalent combinationof education, training, and experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Academic Library experience in access services, and/or reference and instruction;
  • Knowledge of online learning techniques and assessment;
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles, information literacy concepts, and their connection with teaching and learning issues in community college education;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Strong attention to detail, commitment to efficiency and accuracy;
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communication skills;
  • Demonstrated organizational ability, initiative, flexibility, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Experience in a community college;
  • Experience providing reference and instruction services both in-person and online;
  • Experience using an integrated library system;
  • Knowledge of ACRL (Association of College and Research Libraries) information literacy framework;
  • Experience with HTML, JavaScript, and CSS;
  • Knowledge of web design, discovery layers, and link resolvers;
  • Experience creating library tutorials, videos, and interactive modules with Adobe, Camtasia, SpringShare and other software.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $64,292-$71,897, in accordance with one's education and experience as dictated bythe collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure.
