Geospatial Developer, Silver Spring, Maryland

Lynker is seeking a talented Geospatial Developer to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Office of Coast Survey (OCS) by automating and streamlining existing hydrographic data processing and quality assurance workflows. The successful candidate will serve as a Geospatial Developer in OCS's Hydrographic Surveys Division and have familiarity with hydrographic principles and experience working with different geospatial data formats to develop automated routines and be able to clearly document revised workflows for implementation.

The Geospatial Developer selected should have the following experience:

• Experience with ocean and coastal geospatial data and derivative products (including GIS)
• Proficient in Python, with experience in automating existing GIS tasks and developing new GIS workflows
• Experience with application software including Python, ArcGIS and/or QGIS, and CARIS
• Strong geospatial skills, including the processing and analysis of gridded and vector datasets using open-source software (geopandas, numpy, etc.)
• Must be a self-starter and possess strong teamwork skills
• Professional and effective communication skills

The Ideal Geospatial Developer will have the following:

• Experience with hydrographic ocean mapping and data processing and data analysis, and an understanding of hydrographic requirements
• Experience developing mapping standards and techniques, and improving data management and access
• Familiarity with nautical chart products and services, including S-57 / .000 file formats
• Experience with publishing and managing map services
• Experience with reading and writing metadata records
• Understanding of GitHub and collaborative workflows
