Position: Postdoctoral Research Associate

Company: Princeton University

Description: The Iain McCulloch research group in the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University is seeking applications for postdoctoral research associate(s) or more senior research position(s). The McCulloch group's research involves elucidating new structure property relationships in the design of semiconducting materials for use in applications such as electrochemical transistors, solar fuels, and photovoltaics. The researcher will carry out experimental research in the broad area of ion separations. Responsibilities may include characterization of water uptake, ion sorption, and/or ion transport in polymer membranes and sorbents, synthesis of charged polymer membranes, development of theory related to ion transport and sorption, training of graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory methods, management of laboratory supplies and safety, preparation of scholarly publications and proposals. Individuals with expertise in organic synthesis and a PhD in relevant fields (including polymer chemistry and organic chemistry) are encouraged to apply. In addition to technical skills, we especially seek candidates that have experience writing proposals to federal or private sector organizations, setting up instruments, and mentoring graduate or undergraduate students. All candidates must have strong, demonstrated research ability, be comfortable in an interdisciplinary research environment, and have excellent English language verbal and written communication skills. We are interested in receiving applications from members of groups that have been historically underrepresented in engineering and materials science. The term of appointment is based on rank. Positions at the postdoctoral rank are for one year with the possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and continued funding; those hired at more senior ranks may have multi-year appointments. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University. Applicants must apply online at https://puwebp.princeton.edu/AcadHire/position/34601 and submit a CV, cover letter and contact information for three references. All candidates are subject to the University's background check policy. Princeton University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
