Responsibilities

As a Test Engineer at MSA you will be a key contributor within the New Product Development teams using your talents to shape the future of MSA's industrial safety products. Your expertise will ensure the highest quality and performance of the electronics within gas detection instruments while leading the development of comprehensive testing to optimize our manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Plan, design, and deploy complex final product configuration and test system.

  • Gather and develop product test requirements by actively participating on New Product Development (NPD) teams.
  • Drive the NPD Design for Test (DFT) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Design the mechanical aspects of the system, including rack mounts, equipment placement, wiring diagrams/schematics, and gas flow systems.
  • Manage component orders and inventory during assembly.
  • Work with sub-contractors for system assembly and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).
  • Develop test sequences in TestSTAND and drivers in LabVIEW for fixture operation and UUT testing.
  • Perform validation on the fixtures and software.
  • Collaborate with Quality and Sustaining Engineering to verify fixtures/software throughout the production process.

Plan, design, and deploy complex circuit board test fixtures that integrate into MSA's existing PCBA test platform.

  • Plan, design, and deploy complex circuit board test fixtures that seamlessly integrate into our existing PCBA test platform.
  • Document electrical wiring from the Unit Under Test (UUT) to the standard test platform interface.
  • Collaborate with sub-contractors to commission and deliver test fixtures.
  • Develop test sequences in TestSTAND and drivers in LabVIEW and Python for fixture operation and UUT testing.
  • Specify and design Boundary Scan software, integrating it into the TestSTAND sequence.
  • Perform validation on the fixture and software.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, quality engineers and manufacturing to verify fixtures/testing software throughout the production process.
  • Document and provide support during production launch.
  • Facilitate the transfer of newly designed manufacturing test equipment from NPD to the production support engineers.


Qualifications

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Electrical Engineering:
    • Proficiency in Schematic Capture and Board Layout (Altium preferred).
    • Experience in creating system block diagrams and wiring/harness drawings.
    • Familiarity with standard electronics hardware (Oscilloscopes, DMMs, etc.).
    • Experience with troubleshooting electronics and electronic test systems.
    • Knowledge of systems power distribution

  • Software Engineering:
    • Proficiency in NI TestSTAND for creating test system sequences.
    • Proficiency in NI LabVIEW for controlling test and measurement hardware.
    • Proficiency with Windows OS.
    • Experience with Python, preferably for controlling test and measurement hardware.
    • Familiarity with Git version control and SQL databases.
    • Experience with various communication protocols (PXI, Ethernet, USB, RS232, RS485, CAN, I2C, UART, JTAG, Bluetooth, Cellular).

  • Data Engineering:
    • Ability to perform statistical analysis of test data.
    • Experience in trend tracking and root cause analysis of test results.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Mechanical Engineering:
    • 3D modeling skills (Solidworks preferred).
    • Ability to design gas flow diagrams.
    • Understanding of fluid dynamics, pneumatics, robotics.
    • Experience with use of environmental chambers for high//low temperature testing.
    • Knowledge of selecting materials for toxic and combustible gas compatibility

  • General skills
    • General knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • General use of SAP
    • Ability to efficiently manage priorities
    • Project management skills
